In an analysis of the repetition, frequency and overlapping of graffitied marks in Athens a system of flexible signage is identified.
The abstract mechanisms of administrative division of a city like Athens, that has swallowed its suburbs and seems to expand organically, are contested using graffiti as geographic, sociocultural coordinate. The book suggests to understand graffiti as a text that is symbiotically inherent to the city; a text that is continually formed by its many authors and censors. This constantly shifting, physically perceptible text reveals itself, depicted in a map-drawing, continuously spreading through the book.
The epigraphic glossary defines and categorizes multiple alternative readings of the inscriptions.

Since the book’s publication, the project has been adapted for exhibitions in Berlin, Seoul and Venice.
